Global Supply Chains Conference 2006

Firms are increasingly organizing their production into global supply chains. They are outsourcing some of their activities to third parties locating others outside their home country, and forming strategic alliances and joint ventures that span the globe. Through global supply chains, firms are adapting to global competition, falling transportation and communication costs, technological improvements, and the increase in the movement of people. Their ability to do so is key to their future competitiveness and long-term economic viability.

This shift is having an impact on the Canadian economy and governments are taking note. Policy makers must reflect this evolving reality in their work. By enabling firms and industries to participate in global supply chains to remain competitive, policies will ensure that Canada remains the place of choice for businesses to grow and invest to the benefit of our economy and all Canadians.
