This project involves the development of a strategic ITS plan and pilot deployment of dynamic message signs at bus stops in the Outaouais. The strategic plan will provide a detailed roadmap for the integrated deployment of ITS investments for the next 10 years. The pilot deployment will build on the recently implemented GPS-based vehicle location system to provide transit users with immediate benefits of improved transit service. The dynamic signing system at bus stops will provide users with real-time information about the arrival of the next bus at a given stop. Eventually this system will be expanded to all stops on the transit network.

Expected Benefits/Outcomes:

  • Increased driver and passenger safety and security and reduced operator/customer confrontations.
  • More reliable service will promote increased ridership and reduced customer complaints.
  • Improved intermodal connections at transfer points.
  • Increased operational efficiency gains.
  • Reduced energy and environmental impacts.
  • Higher customer satisfaction.
  • Improved mobility, efficiency, and productivity for transit passengers.
