Financial Service Charges Calculator - Troubleshooting

Financial Service Charges Calculator

Important Notes and Troubleshooting

In most cases, the calculator will provide you with an accurate indication of the total monthly fees you will pay for banking services.

However, in some cases, the fee calculated will differ from the fee total appearing on your statement or passbook. In these cases, your financial institution's information should be taken as accurate.

Discrepancies may occur for the following reasons:

  1. Fees as reported by your financial institution may be broken into several different amounts, or they may be reported at various times throughout the month.
  2. Your account may be charged fees directly for some items which are included in the calculator, but not on the monthly amount included on your statement or passbook. These include INTERACTM ABM fees, fees for using white label or bank branded machines located away from a bank branch, and handling charges for paying bills in a branch.
  3. Some types of pre-authorized debits do not have fees applied to them. (See your institution's notes section for details, where applicable).
  4. Some reporting options, such as passbook, monthly statement and cheque return options have different fees applied to them. This calculator assumes that you have chosen the least expensive option. (See your institution's notes section for details, where applicable).
  5. Most institutions offer a number of free debit transactions. Some institutions provide the most expensive transactions free, while others provide the least expensive. The calculator takes these factors into account. However, other institutions provide the first transactions undertaken each month for free. In this case, where you exceed the number of free transactions, the calculator will assign an average value to the free transactions.
  6. Some institutions have regional pricing. (See your institution's notes section for details, if applicable).
  7. Some institutions allow you to pay more than one bill at an ABM, via Telephone Banking, or with a PC, for the cost of one transaction. The calculator assumes that you pay bills one at a time. (See your institution's notes section for details).
  8. Some institutions award free transactions for direct deposits. For the purposes of this calculator, these are assumed to be payroll deposits. Where other direct deposits are involved, the information will appear in the institution's notes section.

Notes

  • The purpose of this calculator is to provide a tool for comparison. It is not intended to endorse any institution's product in any way, based on its pricing structure.
  • This calculator does not take interest payments made on your balance into account.
  • It is important to remember that some accounts or packages offer perks or rewards which are beyond the scope of this calculator. These perks could include discounts on annual fees for safety deposit boxes or credit cards, benefits on interest rates for borrowing or investing, free cheques, cheques returned, overdraft protection, etc. For this reason we offer links, where available, to the appropriate institutional web sites offering information about such perks.

If you have questions about discrepancies between the calculated fee and the fee in your records, please contact us.
