About Us
- We process and respond to requests submitted under the Access to Information Act and/or the Privacy Act. Our primary concern is to ensure that rights under these two Acts are respected and, as such, we ensure that Industry Canada is compliant with the provisions set out in the legislation.
- We work with you to ensure that you understand how to access records that are held by Industry Canada, and explain how we implement these Acts.
- We provide advice concerning the type of information held under the control of the department and accessible records.
- We provide advice concerning your right of complaint to the Information Commissioner and/or the Privacy Commissioner.
- We prepare and table an annual report to Parliament at the end of each fiscal year.

Although forms exist for the submission of both access to information and privacy requests, using these forms is not essential. You may submit your request in the form of a letter as long as you clearly explain what documents you are seeking and under which Act.
There are no fees associated with privacy requests; however, an original signature is required. Access to information requests must be accompanied by a $5 prescribed application fee. Payment may be in the form of a cheque or money order made payable to the Receiver General of Canada. At present, the department will not accept requests submitted electronically.
