Privacy Policy

Transport Canada is committed to respecting the personal privacy of individuals who visit our Web sites. This section summarizes the privacy policy and practices of Transport Canada Web sites.

  • Transport Canada does not automatically gather any information from you, such as your name, phone number, e-mail or street address during your visit to its Web sites. This information is only obtained if you supply it voluntarily, usually through contacting us via e-mail, or registering in a secure portion of this site. When you submit your registration, order or payment information or modify your user profile information online, Transport Canada uses appropriate encryption technology to transmit and store data.
  • Personal information you provide is protected under the federal Privacy Act. This means that, at the point of collection, you will be informed that your personal information is being collected, the purpose for which it is being collected and that you have a right of access to the information.
  • Transport Canada (TC) uses software that receives and records the Internet Protocol (IP) addresses of computers that have connected with its Web sites. In such instances, TC makes no attempt to link these addresses with the identity of individuals visiting TC sites.
  • Non-identifiable information may be collected for audit and statistical purposes.
  • Visitor information is not disclosed to anyone except Transport Canada personnel who need the information, e.g., to respond to a request.
  • Transport Canada does not use 'Cookies' to track how visitors use our Web site. Transport Canada does use temporary 'Cookies' to facilitate your transactions. These 'Cookies' are meaningless session identification numbers that exist in your browser's temporary memory only and are deleted when you close your browser. Some functions on the Transport Canada Web site will not work properly if you disable all Cookies.
