Job Functions: The Division acts as a technical resource for the major functions of the Aircraft Certification Branch. The main activity is the Type Certification of Canadian designed and manufactured aeronautical products to support Canadian industry in obtaining foreign certification of their products. Another activity is the type design validation of aeronautical products certified by foreign regulatory authorities. The Structures Section of the Aircraft Certification Branch, Engineering Division is responsible for the structural aspects of aircraft during both their initial Type Certification and post Type Certification phases. Support is also provided for the structural aspects of Supplemental Type Certification activity at the Regional level. The structural aspects relate to the load bearing components of an aircraft, other than than those directly associated with the engines. It includes the static strength, the fatigue and damage tolerance assessment, the structural dynamics, the structural materials and any associated structural limitations. Support is also provided for Branch and Division level activities such as Delegation of Authority, Quality Assessment Reviews, Company Audits, Canadian and Foreign Authority Rulemaking, Technical Working Groups and Committees, and Policy Making.
