Aboriginal Diabetes Initiative

First Nations On-reserve and Inuit in Inuit Communities Program (FNOIIC)

The FNOIIC program is administered through the First Nations and Inuit Health Branch (FNIHB) regional offices in partnership with First Nations and Inuit in the region. Through the FNOIIC program, the ADI will ensure access to prevention and promotion, care and treatment, and lifestyle support programs for First Nations on-reserve and Inuit living in Inuit communities.

Wherever possible, care and treatment programs build upon existing resources and capacities, and link to the home care services provided by the First Nations and Inuit Home and Community care program.

Prevention and promotion programs aim to build awareness of diabetes and its complications and what can be done to prevent diabetes. Programs emphasize healthy eating and active living, and build awareness of the risk factors, complications, and what can be done to prevent these from occurring.

Lifestyle support programs help those living with diabetes and their families by providing support and information in order to live well with diabetes.

Detailed information on this program is available in the First Nations On-reserve and Inuit in Inuit Communities Program Framework.
