The Canadian Health Network (CHN) is a national, bilingual health promotion program found on the Web at www.canadian-health-network.ca. The CHN's goal is to help Canadians find the information they're looking for on how to stay healthy and prevent disease. The CHN does this through a unique collaboration - one of the most dynamic and comprehensive networks in the world. This network of health information providers includes the Public Health Agency of Canada, Health Canada and national and provincial/territorial non-profit organizations, as well as universities, hospitals, libraries and community organizations.

MISSION

The mission of the Canadian Health Network is to promote healthy choices. We do this by communicating trustworthy information on health promotion and disease and injury prevention through a network of expert organizations.

VISION

Individuals and communities use the Canadian Health Network to make informed health decisions that improve their quality of life.

VALUES

The Values of the Canadian Health Network serve as guidelines for our conduct and behaviour as we work towards our Vision.

QUALITY: We communicate only credible, evidence-based information.

DIVERSE: We offer a comprehensive view of health topics from multiple perspectives.

COLLABORATIVE: We promote dialogue and cooperation in a dynamic Network where all members are valued.

RESPONSIVE: We use input from our Network and users to improve our services.

INNOVATIVE: We identify and apply new tools and approaches to continuously improve the Canadian Health Network.


CHN offers:

  • Links to more than 20,000 English and French Canadian web-based resources that pass a rigorous quality assurance process to ensure that the information is timely, accurate, and relevant.
  • In-depth information on 25 key health topics and population groups, with resources on how to stay healthy and prevent disease and injury.
  • High-quality national health information, and regional resources from Canada's provinces, territories and local communities.
  • Information on societal health issues such as violence prevention, environment and health, and workplace safety.
  • Bi-monthly feature articles on current health issues.

The CHN is non-commercial and assures complete privacy and confidentiality.

The CHN offers many search choices to explore its large collection of Canadian health resources in either English or French.

The CHN offers a checklist to help users take a critical look at health information web sites and assess their accuracy, timeliness, relevance and possible bias.
