Public Notice 1996-3

Application for Certification:
Union des Artistes (UDA)
Tribunal File No. 95-0016-A

In accordance with subsection 25(3) of the Status of the Artist Act, the Canadian Artists and Producers Professional Relations Tribunal hereby gives notice that it has received an application from l'Union des Artistes for certification to represent a sector composed of all performers, choreographers and directors who perform, sing, recite, direct or perform in any manner whatsoever, in a literary, musical or dramatic work, or in a mime, variety, circus or puppet show:

  1. broadcast, presented or performed in Quebec;

  2. broadcast, presented or performed in Canada, outside Quebec, to a French-speaking audience;

with respect to all producers subject to the Status of the Artist Act throughout Canada, save and except

  1. the sector recognized by l'Union des Artistes as being within the jurisdiction of the Canadian Actors' Equity Association pursuant to an agreement between the two unions;

  2. the sector recognized by l'Union des Artistes as being within the jurisdiction of the Association of Canadian Television and Radio Artists pursuant to an agreement between the two unions;

  3. artists who play musical instruments in all areas of artistic production, including persons who sing while playing a musical instrument for the instrumental portion of their performance.

Any artists' association that wishes to make a competing application for certification in respect of the same sector or any part of the same sector must file its application for certification no later than March 19, 1996. Competing applications for certification should be sent to the address below.

Any artist, artists' association or producer affected by this application wishing to make representations to the Tribunal regarding the proposed sector must notify the Tribunal in writing of their interest no later than March 19, 1996.

Any artist or artists' association affected by this application wishing to make representations to the Tribunal regarding the representativeness of the applicant must notify the Tribunal in writing of their interest no later than March 19, 1996.
