Overview

The Manitoba Urban Native Housing Association (MUNHA) held its first annual general meeting in over 4 years on August 13, 2004 at the Kekinan Centre. The member organizations unanimously adopted the 5 policy priorities outlined in this report including:

The first section of this report will identify the context of the needs regarding urban Aboriginal housing in Manitoba including the historical perspective of the development of urban Aboriginal housing programs in Canada, specific issues related to urban Aboriginal housing in Manitoba, potential sources of funding for urban Aboriginal housing, and the need to negotiate future program initiatives with elected politicians given the limitations of dealing with bureaucratic officials regarding urban Aboriginal housing.

The second section of the report will address the specific 5 policy priorities adopted by member organizations of MUNHA at its recent annual general meeting.

The final section of the report will make some concluding remarks about the need for a call for action to address the housing needs of urban Aboriginal individuals and families.
