English as a Second Language

The two-semester English as a Second Language program is designed to meet the needs of Canadian and international students whose mother tongue is not English. At present, the college focuses on the intermediate level, from low to advanced. With more than 20 years of experience in teaching ESL, the college has a well established reputation for delivering quality education in a caring and supportive environment.

There are many reasons to choose ESL at Canadore College:

  • program approved by the Ministry of Education and Training

  • well-qualified instructors with many years of experience

  • state-of-the-art Sony language laboratory

  • small, friendly classes

  • When you complete all courses in the program with a final grade of A, B, or C, you will receive a certificate from the college. If you graduate from the program with an academic average of A or B, you are considered to be functionally bilingual and able to successfully complete most postsecondary programs in English-speaking institutions.

    ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Ontario Secondary School Diploma at or above the general level or its equivalent.

In this program, you will be in class approximately 25 hours per week. This includes 16 hours in class, five hours in the Sony language lab, two hours in tutoring groups, and two hours in the computer lab.

It is strongly suggested that you complete both semesters.

Investing in becoming bilingual is investing in your future. Give yourself the advantage of speaking two languages; you will reap the rewards professionally, socially, and personally.
