Copies of all Canadian open to public inspection patent applications and granted patents are available in paper format. Copies on CD-R are available if the documents are accessible electronically. Certified copies are available in paper format only.

Information Request Services

Section 11: Request information respecting a pending application under Section 11 of the Patent Act. For more information see Manual of Patent Office Practice, Chapter 3.02.

Item 24: Request information on whether a patent has issued, on the basis of an application filed in Canada and identified by a serial number. For more information see Manual of Patent Office Practice, Chapter 20.02.02.

Status: Request information on the status of a patent application or patent. For more information see Manual of Patent Office Practice, Chapter 3.01.01.

Response time and delivery

Requests are generally processed within one to three working days when submitted with proof of payment. Some exceptions may apply due to delays in receiving materials from archives.

Orders are delivered by regular mail. Orders requiring other methods of delivery will be the responsibility of the client.
