Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must fully demonstrate in their application that they meet all of the minimum qualifications.

Certification:

  • A valid Aircraft Maintenance Engineer Licence category “S”

Experience:

  • Acceptable training and experience in Aircraft Sheet Metal working to a proficiency level normally associated with a technician.

Depending on the position, candidates may be required to possess experience in one or more of the following:

  • Ferrous and non-ferrous metals and composite materials used in the fabrications of aircraft

  • General machine shop practices and technical procedures

  • Various types of heat treatments used on the aircraft metals; structural repair procedures to pressurized and non-pressurized fuselages, wings, control surfaces, etc.

Functions:

Under the guidance of a Team Leader, the Aircraft Maintenance Engineer - Structures is responsible for the following:

  • Inspects, tests and evaluates structural damage to fixed/rotary wing aircraft.

  • Initiates the development of repairs, plans and collaborates with Engineering Section and manufacturers.

  • Repairs, modifies, fabricates, overhauls and tests fixed/rotary wing aircraft structures, also components and test equipment for ancillary trade groups.

  • Completes all required paperwork and signs maintenance release for the work completed on fixed and rotary wing aircraft, equipment and components following any repair/maintenance to the applicable airworthiness standards and Aircraft Services Directorate approved Maintenance Control Manual.

  • Provides structural repair and technical support services to Transport Canada and CCG Helicopter regional bases.

About the Organization:

Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (Structures) at Transport Canada work within the Aircraft Services Directorate of the Safety and Security Group. The Civil Aviation headquarters directorate determines program contents, policy and standards, while the regions deliver the program.

Aircraft Services Directorate is responsible for the provision of aircraft and services in support of Transport Canada operations, as well, as selected programs of other federal government departments and agencies.

Aircraft Services operates and maintains a fleet of 45 fixed and 35 rotary wing aircraft to support Transport Canada operations, the operations of other federal government and agencies, and external clients. The aircraft are located at seven fixed wing and eleven rotary wing aircraft bases across Canada, with major overhaul work conducted at the main base located in Ottawa, Ontario.

The Technical Services Branch of Aircraft Services is responsible for maintaining Transport Canada's fixed wing and helicopter fleet to airworthiness standards necessary for compliance with the Operating Certificate, and for providing those aircraft on time for use by Aircraft Services clients. The Branch operates an approved maintenance organization with components involved in aircraft maintenance, analysis and planning, logistic support, overhaul and component repair, aircraft refinishing and quality assurance.
