Assistance to Canadians

If you are a Canadian in Japan you are not alone! Over 9,000 Canadians now make their home in Japan, in each prefecture from Hokkaido to Okinawa. Each month an additional 6,000 Canadians visit Japan.

If you find yourself in Japan or planning to visit Japan, and you need information about government programs and services in Canada or Japan; or wish to renew your Canadian passport; or want to apply for a Canadian citizenship certificate on behalf of your child; or require assistance in dealing with a personal problem, you may wish to call upon the Consular Section of our Embassy in Tokyo or our Consulate General in Osaka. While we do not profess to have all the answers or solutions, we will at least try to redirect you to the most appropriate source of information or assistance.

For Canadians and non-Canadians alike the Consular Section also offers notarial services (fees apply) on documents which either have a legal use in Canada or will be used by Canadians in Japan. Notarial services are also available from our Consulates in Fukuoka and Nagoya as well as from our Honorary Consuls in Hiroshima, Sapporo and Sendai.
