Canada is home to over one million Aboriginal peoples from diverse cultures and different linguistic groups. It is estimated that at least 53 languages are spoken by the Aboriginal population of Canada - not including different dialects.

The term "Aboriginal" includes First Nations ( "Native Indians"), Métis (people with mixed First Nations and European ancestry) and Inuit (the Aboriginal people of Arctic Canada).
