Hi my name is Ruth Harries. I am currently working for a TV company in the UK called Two Hand Productions on a children's educational wildlife series called 'Michaela's Wild Challenge' in the UK. The series follows BAFTA award nominee Michaela Strachan and her 2 co-presenters as they travel around the world being set challenging and innovative wildlife challenges that allow them the opportunity to interact with wild animals. The series is targeted for a child audience (aged 8-14yrs); many of the challenges are revolved around field research, rehabilitation and conservation, as this not only enables us to get as close to the animals as possible, but is also a valuable way of educating our young viewers on the wildlife or of world and what efforts are being made to understand and conserve them. Some of the other challenges are quite simply out-of-this world wildlife experiences - ones that Michaela, Ellie and Jamie will never ever forget!! Over the last two series we have traveled far and wide, from The Arctic to Sri Lanka, from the deserts of Namibia to the dense rainforests of Panama. Michaela's challenges have also been varied, involving both land and water, animals both large and small. Some of her challenges is the past have been:   - Spend a day with your red haired cousin (Wild Orangutans with OuTrop in Indonesia)   - Extracting a tooth from a polar bear (Assisting the WWF Arctic Programme)   - To see a shark in the dark (night dive with reef sharks in The Maldives)    - To see a fish out of water (breaching great white sharks in South Africa) - Having her teeth cleaned underwater (cleaner wrasse fish in Egypt) - Finding an animal for every letter of the alphabet (Namibia)    - Split the boys from the girls in a crocodile nest (South Africa) - Build a Colobus bridge and see a monkey crossing (Kenya) I am looking for ideas for the 4th series due to begin filming in September 2005. We would really like to come and do a series of stories in Canada and are just looking for ideas and suggestions of areas and times of year to see particular wildlife. Examples of wildlife on our list to find stories/ challenges about are beluga whales, grizzly bears, blue whales, black footed ferret, swift fox, humpback whales, minke whales and anything else anyone can suggest. We are also loking for scientists who would like to help us as well who may be doing some really interesting research with particular wildlife that would give a fantastic educational and exciting story for our programme. I really hope you would like to be involved as I feel 'Michaela's Wild Challenge' is a fantastic way of educating children on the wonders of our natural world and the importance of wildlife.
