Transport Canada Environmental Affairs develops and implements programs and policies to protect the natural environment and to achieve a more sustainable transportation system in Canada. Please follow any of the links below to learn more about specific areas.

Programs

Moving on Sustainable Transportation (MOST) -  A contribution program for sustainable transportation projects.

Urban Transportation Showcase Program - Five-year program which provides funding to municipalities to demonstrate, evaluate, and promote effective strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from urban transportation.

Freight Efficiency - Strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from freight transportation.

Advanced Technology Vehicles Program - Assesses vehicles with advanced powertrains, materials, chassis designs, emission controls, fuels, and other technologies to measure their impact on safety, energy efficiency and the environment.

Fuel Consumption Program - in operation since 1975,  promotes energy conservation in the transportation sector through the design, manufacture and sale of fuel efficient light-duty motor vehicles.

Sustainable Development -  Transport Canada’s Strategy and commitments.

Air Pollution - Links to resources concerning smog and other air quality issues. 

Economic Analysis - Studies and reports on the economic impacts of transportation on the environment.

Urban Transit Studies - Three consultant studies (“Transit Studies”) dealing with different aspects of the urban transit industry.

Environmental Management

Environmental Management System - How Transport Canada manages environmental impacts from its own operations.

Environmental Protection -  Information on a variety of environmental issues related to the transportation sector, including suggestions for changing employees' commuting habits.   

Contaminated Sites - Efforts to identify and clean-up land contamination.

Environmental Assessment - Environmental assessments of proposed transportation projects and policies.

Real Property

Property Record System (PRS) - Real Property Management Database

Property Plans - shows boundaries and parcels related to a site providing a graphical depiction of the property as a whole.

Directory of Federal Real Property - Treasury Board land database

Committees - Real Property Management represents Transport Canada on a number of Treasury Board committees and working groups concerning the management of federal real property.

Payment In Lieu of Taxes (PILT) - Departmental liaison with the Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC), PILT Office.
