APPOINTMENT TO THE TRANSPORTATION APPEAL TRIBUNAL OF CANADA
OTTAWA − The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport,
Infrastructure and Communities, today announced the appointment of Mr. Arthur W.
Lyon as a member of the Transportation Appeal Tribunal of Canada.
"I am pleased that Mr. Lyon has accepted this appointment," said Minister
Cannon. "His experience in aviation and aviation law will greatly benefit the
tribunal."
Mr. Lyon obtained a bachelor of science from Wilfrid Laurier University and a
bachelor of laws from the University of Ottawa Law School. Following admission
to the Bar, he attended the Air Transport Course at the Royal Aeronautical
Society in Oxford, England. Since 1981, Mr. Lyon has been a licensed private
pilot. Upon returning to Canada, he practiced aviation law in Toronto. He
subsequently went on to hold senior governmental positions. Since 1994, he has
undertaken international consulting assignments in Iceland and Switzerland. Mr.
Lyon has been appointed as a member of the Transportation Appeal Tribunal of
Canada for two years.
The Transportation Appeal Tribunal of Canada provides an independent review
process for anyone who has been given notice of an administrative or enforcement
action taken by the Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities,
railway safety inspectors or the Canadian Transportation Agency under various
federal transportation acts.
