Policy & Planning
The mission of DIAND NWT’s Policy and Planning Directorate is to
ensure that the department and the NWT Region make informed, strategic
and cohesive policy decisions that support the achievement of results
for northerners.
Policy and Planning provides a range of support services to the Regional
Office and the Regional Executive Committee:
- Coordinates corporate strategic planning, management, reporting and
accountability using a results-based management approach;
- Conducts internal evaluations of organizational and program effectiveness,
and coordinates external performance audits;
- Provides research, analysis and recommendations on cross-directorate
guidance tools (strategy, policy, procedure and the coordination of
legal opinions) for the department's key result areas of land and water,
government, people, economy, and organizational performance;
- Coordinates regional-level input into departmental and federal agendas,
as well as political visits to the region;
- Represents the region in some intergovernmental fora (Northern Forum,
Rural Team NWT); and
- Pilots the implementation of new targeted Northern Affairs funding
programs (climate change, innovation, infrastructure) and evaluates
effective delivery mechanisms for the region.
