![]() 2-02807 INDIAN AND NORTHERN AFFAIRS MINISTER RECEIVES SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVE'S REPORTOTTAWA, ONTARIO (November 9, 2006) - The Honourable Jim Prentice, Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development and Federal Interlocutor for Métis and Non-Status Indians, received a report prepared by Alan Pope, the Special Federal Representative on the development of a sustainable solution for the community of Kashechewan. "The health and safety of residents of Kashechewan First Nation continues to be a priority of Canada's New Government," said Minister Prentice. "I thank Mr. Pope, community members, and the many other parties consulted for all the work that has gone into the report," he added. Mr. Pope has undertaken extensive consultations resulting in over 50 recommendations and has provided his report and recommendations to Minister Prentice for review. Minister Prentice expects to provide a federal response in the coming weeks. "I am very pleased to receive Mr. Pope's report and I will carefully review his recommendations," said Minister Prentice. On June 6, 2006, Minister Prentice appointed Alan Pope as the Minister's Special Federal Representative, to work with the community, the provincial government, to find a lasting solution, including a substantive plan of action.
