Regional Partnerships Fund (RPF): promotes First Nation participation
in, and expanded economic benefits from, major regional development initiatives,
in such areas as infrastructure projects and tourism and resource development
initiatives.
Total funding provided in fiscal year 2002-2003: $3,943,075
Projects funded under the RPF in the Manitoba Region during fiscal year
2002-2003 include:
- Kinonjeoshtegon First Nation -To repair and expand Goodmans Landing
Fish Plant, to become a major fish packaging plant in the region and
to provide employment for local band members.
- Peguis First Nation - To develop a strong infrastructure that allows
for a proper wastewater system and solid waste management. Through the
development, the capacity of the lagoon system will increase and become
more effective in order to accommodate the ongoing expansion of the
community which includes economic development.
- Buffalo Point First Nation -To assist with the development of infrastructure
to support economic development projects such as the Lake of the Sandhills
Golf Course. The plan is to develop a destination with a full set of
recreational facilities to attract business as a tourist resort.
- Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation - Atoskiwin Training and Employment
Centre of Excellence - To create a state-of-the-art training facility
and business incubator on-reserve to complement the economic development
and employment opportunities that will arise from regional resource
development.
- Opaskwayak Cree Nation - To complete an industrial park feasibility
study that will determine the required scope of the proposed industrial
park to meet the economic needs of the First Nation.
