Resource Acquisition Initiative (RAI): helps communities and individuals
to fund resource sector and related business opportunities which may include
acquiring natural resource permits and licences. To qualify, the project
must establish or expand a viable business.
Total funding provided in fiscal year 2002-2003: $640,705
Projects funded under the RAI in the Manitoba Region during fiscal year
2002-2003 include:
- Dave Traverse (Kinonjeoshtegon First Nation) - Commercial Fishers
- Purchase of equipment to retain traditional livelihood within the
First Nation.
- Warren Spence (Pinaymootang First Nation) - Cow/Calf operation
- to establish himself as an independent operator.
- Rita Paul (Lake Manitoba First Nation) - Paul Family Farm - Expansion
of existing operation with inventory and infrastructure enhancing viability
of operation.
- Barry Abraham (Sagkeeng First Nation) - Cow/Calf operation - Expansion
of existing operation with inventory and infrastructure enhancing viability
of operation.
- Wallace Stevenson (Peguis First Nation) - Cow/Calf operation -
Expansion of existing operation with inventory and infrastructure enhancing
viability of operation.
- John Sinclair (Fisher River Cree Nation) - Commercial Grading and
Excavation - Purchase of equipment and infrastructure to support access
to additional opportunities.
- Fred Muskego (Norway House Cree Nation) - Lawford Lake Outfitters
- Establish operation to meet market demands and compliment existing
operations.
- Norway House Cree Nation - Molson Lake Lodge - Expansion of existing
business to increase access to market and upgrades to existing infrastructure.
