Economic Development Opportunity Fund (EDOF): provides financial
aid in the form of matching equity funding. The objective is to use the
funding to obtain conventional debt financing for business start-ups or
for business expansion.
Total funding provided in fiscal year 2002-2003: $1,314,665
Projects funded under EDOF in the Manitoba Region during fiscal year
2002-2003 include:
- Mary Agnes Vanasse (Sandy Bay First Nation) - Creation of the Pi-Oni-Shi-Shin
Hair Styling Salon at Sandy Bay First Nation, with state of the art
equipment.
- Opaskwayak Cree Nation - Northland Redi-Mix Concrete and gravel
equipment expansion, including a cement mixer truck, wheel loader upgrades,
hot water system and boiler system.
- Lisa Meeches (Long Plain First Nation) - Expansion of Meeches Video
Production Inc., with the purchase of video production equipment to
allow the proponent to complete production of TV documentaries independently.
- Reva McDonald (O-Chi-Chak-Ko-Sipi First Nation) - Purchase of existing
M & M Meat Shop franchise operation in Selkirk, Manitoba.
- Loretta Caribou (Mathias Colomb First Nation) - Purchase of an
Expressway Pizza , mobile pizza operation to service The Pas, Manitoba,
both on and off-reserve.
- Stan Sinclair (Mosakahiken Cree Nation) - To purchase Vision Quest,
a jewelry and giftware business to be operated at the Mosakahiken Cree
Nation.
- Cochrane Enterprises (Fisher River Cree Nation) - Fisher River
Foodfare. To establish a grocery operation under the Foodfare name at
Fisher River First Nation.
- Dennis Swampy (Sagkeeng First Nation) - Part Place. To establish
an automotive parts and supplies operation at Sagkeeng First Nation.
- Dauphin River First Nation - To develop an "Experiential Centre:
Resort and Conference Centre" on First Nation territory, on the
south side of the Dauphin River.
- Ryan Chartier (Chemawawin Cree Nation) - Chartier Repair. To establish
a small engine repair operation.
- Paskwayak Business Development Corporation (Opaskwayak Cree Nation)
- To purchase a dollar store, currently operated in the Kikiwak Mall
at the First Nation.
- Bunibonibee Cree Nation - Creation of a 870,000 litre gasoline,
heating fuel and diesel tank farm and fuel delivery service at Oxford
House, Manitoba.
- Southeast Resource Development Council - Expansion of the Players
Course Golf Course Ltd., including, paving the cart paths, improving
the 9th hole and expanding the restaurant to increase the
market for the course.
