St. Boniface Declaration

Prime Minister of Canada's addresses to the 11th Francophonie Summit

The Honourable Josée Verner - Minister of International Cooperation and Minister for La Francophonie and Official Languages

From May 13 to 14, 2006, I had the honour to preside the Francophonie Ministerial Conference on Conflict Prevention and Human Security in Manitoba which led to the adoption of the St. Boniface Declaration. This agreement strengthens the contribution of La Francophonie to conflict prevention and resolution, especially the protection of civilians in conflict situations, particularly women & children. The Declaration was presented to the heads of state and government at the 11th Summit of La Francophonie, held in Bucharest, Romania, on September 28 and 29, 2006.

I urge all Canadians to take pride in the energy and vitality of Canada's Francophone community and its influence on the international stage."

Honourable Josée Verner
Minister of International Cooperation
And Minister for La Francophonie and
Official Languages
