Michel has been with CANUTEC since December 1986. Prior to his employment with CANUTEC, he has worked for the federal government particularly in the environmental emergencies field and has participated in the development of technical manuals published by Environment Canada such as Envirotips manuals and the Manual for spills of hazardous materials. He also worked in the Technology Transfer Group where he was responsible for the organisation of several conferences related to various aspects of environmental protection such as the National Conference on Waste Management and the International Symposium on Water Treatment. Michel obtained his B. Sc. in Chemistry from Laval University in 1981.

His present responsibilities consist of managing CANUTEC’s operations, to ensure the continued development and improvement of CANUTEC’s services as well as the professional qualifications of personnel. He participates in several groups and committees (CCPA) and represents CANUTEC as well as TDG by participating in numerous projects which involve the Transport of Dangerous Goods Directorate. Michel has also coordinated the preparation of the 1996 North American Emergency Response Guidebook and the 2000 Emergency Response Guidebook.

Michel has completed the NFPA 472 Operations-level Hazmat training in addition to numerous specific courses in emergency response such as Tank car Safety from the AAR. Furthermore, he has completed Inspector level courses for TDGR (Canada) and Title 49 CFR (U.S.)
