Implications of First Nations Demography

Final Report,
Four Directions Consulting Group,
Winnipeg.
August 1997.

This report was managed by INAC’s Strategic Research and Analysis Directorate and completed by Four Directions Consulting Group in August 1997. It provides a summary of recent trends in First Nations demography as well as a limited analysis of some of the main implications for First Nation communities and INAC.

The study can be divided in four main sections. The first section analyses past demographic trends and underlying processes which will affect the registered Indian population in the future. The second and third sections describe the impact of these trends on the mainstream population, and on First Nations. The final section includes the report's findings and implications for First Nations and for INAC.
