Towards the Creation of an Autonomous Government for Nunavik
During its consultation work, the Nunavik Commission undertook a tour of every community in Nunavik. Meetings were held with municipal council members and students from the secondary level. In addition, public audiences were organized to collect the population's opinion for the whole territory.
This set of pictures was taken during this tour which was done in four stages. The first one allowed the members to visit the Ungava Bay communities, thus Kangirsualujjuaq, Kuujjuaq, Quaqtaq, Kangirsuk, Aupaluk and Tasiujaq; the second, those along the Hudson Strait, thus Kangiqsujjuaq, Saluit and Ivujivik; the third consisted of Akulivik and Puvirnituk; and the fourth were Inukjuak, Umiujaq and Kuujjuarapik.
The bulk of the pictures were taken by commissioner Tremblay. The others were taken at his request and are part of his collection. He is happy to share these, via Internet, with the communities that were visited, the signators of the Political Accord and other interested parties.
