The Policy, Planning and Coordination Branch (PPC) consists of three Directorates: Program Coordination, Policy and Litigation, and Environment. The Branch’s mandate is to integrate and coordinate the sector’s strategic policy development, litigation management and program relevancy while maintaining a single window of contact for key corporate and client initiatives. Our work involves the development of policy and program options, and systematic and strategic responses to litigation. The planning function of the Branch has also taken on greater importance with the departmental results framework and evolving strategic policy framework.

PPC is responsible for the following business lines and programs:

• Gathering Strength Professional Development Program and subordinate partnership initiatives;
• Horizontal integration of LTS programs and policies;
• Management of LTS litigation, including analysis of implications for operational policy, program policy and procedures, including the provision of briefings, approvals and settlements;
• Maintenance of the Inventory of Contaminated Sites on reserve land and coordination of re-mediation planning;
• Design and implementation of the IIAP Environmental Stewardship Strategy Action Plan; and,
• Identifying sector and regional responsibility for compliance with the Indian Act, the Canadian Energy Pipeline Act, the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act; the Canadian Species at Risk Act, and proposed amendments to other Acts such as the Fisheries Act and the Canadian Environmental Protection Act and other IIAP environmental responsibilities.
