Aboriginal Workforce - Helping you realize your full potential

Aboriginal Declaration Process for Applicants to Aboriginal-only Staffing Activities within INAC

INAC is committed to a workforce that is culturally sensitive and representative of its Aboriginal/Inuit partners. In support of this commitment, the department will have an Aboriginal Declaration Process (ADP) to ensure that individuals accessing employment opportunities within INAC that have been identified only for Aboriginal candidates are within that target group.

When will ADP be used?

You will be asked to use ADP if you apply for a job at INAC that is designed for Aboriginal people only or if you apply to be listed in an Aboriginal inventory at INAC.

How does ADP work?

Step 1: Declaration

You will be asked to complete the Aboriginal Declaration Form (ADF) when you apply or before the initial screening takes place. You can get this form online, or from Human Resources. Screening includes a review of the application to make sure you meet the education and experience requirements for the job.

Step 2: Acknowledgment

You will be asked to complete the Aboriginal Declaration Acknowledgement (ADA) when you apply or before the initial screening takes place. You can get this form online, or from Human Resources. Screening includes a review of the application to make sure you meet the education and experience requirements for the job.

Once you have completed and submitted these forms and you are found to meet the education and experience requirements for the job, you may be invited for assessment. This can include testing, an interview and reference checks.

Step 3: Documentation

You will be asked to provide documentation to substantiate the information provided on the ADF at any point during your application process. Your documentation may be reviewed by the Aboriginal Declaration Process Review Committee (ADPRC). INAC has the right to check any documentation you may provide. If you provide false or misleading information during the declaration process, your application may be rejected or your appointment to the position cancelled.

The information you provide on this document is collected for the purpose of verifying eligibility for Aboriginal targeted staffing activities within the Department of Indian and Northern Affairs Canada. Personal information will be protected under the provisions of the Privacy Act and will be held as part of all other documents submitted for a specific staffing process.

If you have any questions or comments about ADP, please contact Kim Brant, Manager, Aboriginal Programs at (819) 994-6472 or by e-mail at BrantK@ainc-inac.gc.ca
