ESSIPITGeographical location: The reserve is located on the north shore of the St. Lawrence River near Les Escoumins Bay, 40 km northeast of Tadoussac. Population: 379 Men: 175 Within the territory: 181 Principal languages spoken: Montagnais, French Historical overview: In 1892, the federal government purchased the territory for the use of the Indians of Les Escoumins. In 1994, both the community and the reserve were renamed Essipit. Band Council: The band council consists of a chief and three councillors elected in accordance with local custom.

Education: No school within the territory. Community services: Fire Protection: provided by the Municipality of Les Escoumins. Waste disposal: provided by the regional county municipality (collection and transportation provided by the band council). Principal community facilities: administrative centre and health centre, recreation centre: community hall, bowling alley, pool hall, tennis court, racquetball court, play court, ball field, outdoor skating rink, swimming pool. |
