NAVIGATING THE TRANS-CANADA HIGHWAY

To travel on the Trans-Canada Highway, follow the road signs with the maple leaf symbol. They will lead you from St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador all the way to Victoria, British Columbia.

  • Hwy. 1 from St John’s to Channel-Port aux Basques
Prince Edward Island
  • Hwy. 1 from Wood Islands to Borden Point at the Confederation Bridge
Nova Scotia
  • Hwy. 105 from Sydney Mines to Port Hastings
  • Hwy. 104 from Port Hastings to the New Brunswick/Nova Scotia border near Fort Lawrence
  • Hwy. 106 Ferry from Prince Edward Island to Hwy. 104
New Brunswick
  • Hwy. 2 from the Nova Scotia/New Brunswick border near Aulac to the New Brunswick/Quebec border near Saint- Jacques
  • Hwy. 16 from near Aulac to the Confederation Bridge
Quebec

The Province of Ontario has designated the following additional road links as being part of the Trans-Canada Highway. These links were not constructed under the Trans-Canada Highway Act:

  • Hwy. 17 from Hwy. 417 a little past where Hwy. 417 meets Hwy. 7 from Ottawa via Pembroke and North Bay to Sudbury
  • Hwy. 11 from Hwy. 17 at North Bay via Kapuskasing to Hwy. 17 at Nipigon, and Hwy. 17 via Sault Ste. Marie to Nipigon
  • Hwy.11, starting at North Bay, from Hwy.17 at Shabaqua Corners to Hwy. 71 near Barwick
  • Hwy. 71 near Barwick to Hwy. 17 near Kenora
Manitoba
  • Hwy. 1 from the Ontario/Manitoba border near West Falcon Lake via Winnipeg to the Manitoba/Saskachewan border near Moosomin
  • Hwy. 16 breaks off from Hwy. 1 at Portage la Prairie to the Manitoba/Saskatchewan border (Langenburg)
Saskatchewan
  • Hwy. 1 from the Manitoba/Saskachewan border near Moosomin via Regina, Moose Jaw and Swift Current to the Saskatchewan/Alberta border
  • Hwy. 16 at the Manitoba/Saskatchewan border through Saskatoon to the Saskatchewan/Alberta border (Lloydminster)
Alberta
  • Hwy. 1 from the Saskatchewan/Alberta border near Walsh via Calgary, Banff and Lake Louise to the Alberta/British Columbia border near Kamloops
  • Hwy. 16 at the Lloydminster, Saskatchewan/Alberta border through Edmonton and Jasper to the Alberta/British Columbia border (McBride)
British Columbia
  • Hwy. 1 from the Alberta/British Columbia border via Kamloops and Cache Creek to Vancouver
  • (to continue west along the Trans-Canada Highway, travellers must take a ferry to Vancouver Island)
  • Hwy. 1 from Nanaimo to Victoria
  • Hwy. 16 at the Alberta/British Columbia border via Prince George to Prince Rupert
  • Hwy. 16 Skidegate to Masset on Queen Charlotte Islands
