Conservation
Activities focus on the development of northern sustainable development advice, policies, strategies, legislation and regulations guiding renewable resources utilization, conservation and protection in Canada's three northern territories. DIAND has developed its own Sustainable Development Strategy, administers the Northern Information Network which holds a wealth of geographic information about Canada's three northern territories, oversees the Reindeer Regulations and the Archeological Sites Regulations and is an active participant in and contributor to
Protected Areas Strategies
in the North.
The Fur Program aims to meet Canada's international obligations in support of humane trapping standards and the sustainable use of wild fur-bearing animals through the provision of information and support. Provides technical and scientific expertise about the Arctic environment.
