Through this service the Northern Affairs Program carries out the management of the federal program which provides nutritious perishable food products and other essential items to isolated northern communities at reduced postal rates. Activities include the conduct of regular surveys of food costs in remote Canadian communities serviced primarily by air transportation; and the conduct of nutrition surveys in selected communities among certain segments of the population.
