Electronic Commerce in Canada

Electronic Commerce & International Trade

The E-Commerce Branch promotes the use of e-commerce as an enabler to trade in a global environment. E-Commerce affects a wide range of economic sectors and depends on fair and liberal trade rules.

Given the benefits of applying electronic commerce to business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-consumer (B2C) transactions, it is imperative that this method of business can be applied in an international context as well.

Electronic commerce not only allows international businesses to streamline the production process and function more efficiently, but it provides small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) with access to foreign markets that otherwise might not be possible. Through electronic commerce, a business can potentially market and sell their products online to customers anywhere in the world.
