Part 3 - Legal Status and Capacity

  1. Each First Nation and the United Anishnaabeg Councils are separate legal entities, with the capacity, rights, powers and privileges of a natural person, such as to:

    1. enter into all forms of agreements;

    2. acquire, hold, sell or exchange real property, and any interest therein;

    3. acquire, hold, expend, invest and borrow money and securities, or guarantee the repayment of money or securities;

    4. carry on business;

    5. sue, or be sued, in its own name; and

    6. do other things ancillary to its capacities, rights, powers, and privileges.
