Anishnaabe Government Agreement

Preamble

This Agreement on Anishnaabe Government made

BETWEEN:

The Beausoleil First Nation, Curve Lake First Nation, Hiawatha First Nation and Moose Deer Point First Nation, hereinafter referred to as the "First Nations"

AND

The United Anishnaabeg Councils

AND

HER MAJESTY THE QUEEN IN RIGHT OF CANADA, as represented by the Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development, hereinafter referred to as "Canada",

Hereinafter referred to as the "parties"

WHEREAS the First Nations are composed of aboriginal people within the meaning of section 35 of the Constitution Act, 1982;

AND WHEREAS the First Nations have a history of decision making, have a long standing relationship with the Crown and have entered into treaties, agreements or other arrangements with the Crown;

AND WHEREAS the provisions of this Agreement were negotiated in accordance with a government-to-government relationship within the framework of the Constitution of Canada.

NOW THEREFORE IT IS AGREED AS FOLLOWS:
