Nova Scotia Nurses' UnionEstablished in 1976, the Nova Scotia Nurses' Union (NSNU) is a professional union representing Nurse Practitioners, Licensed Practical Nurses and Registered Nurses in acute, long-term and community care, adult residential centres, VON branches and Canadian Blood Services. The NSNU represents approximately 5,800 nurses employed in the province. The Board of Directors, as well as the many service committees within the organization, are comprised of nurses elected or appointed by and from the general membership. Locals ranging in size from six to 1,100 members benefit from a focus on nurse issues and the provision of adequate health care for the people of Nova Scotia. The Nurses' Union staff assist with grievances, college complaints, contract interpretation, negotiations, counselling, legal advice, communications and requests for labour education. |
