Airworthiness Notice - B027, Edition 3 - 19 February 2002
Ex-Military Bell Rotorcraft
(This Airworthiness Notice supersedes AN B027 Edition 2, dated 5 May 1997)
Introduction
Transport Canada has been informed that the Department of National Defence (DND) will be
disposing of the following models of rotorcraft, and various parts of those
aircrafts through Crown Assets Distribution Centre:
Types
CH – 136 (COH – 58A), CH-118 (UH – 1H), CH – 135 (CUH – 1N)
There is a possibility that some Canadian operators may be interested in acquiring
some of these ex-DND rotorcraft or components for civil operation.
Purpose
The purpose of this notice is to inform the aviation public of the lack of a type
certification for these rotorcraft, and the possible distribution of aircraft
components/parts that lack an acceptable release for installation on Canadian
aircraft.
Aircraft Certification Status
Bell Helicopter Textron has informed Transport Canada that only two OH-58A aircraft,
originally destined for U.S. military use, had been listed on FAA Type
Certificate H2SW as equivalent to a Bell 206A-1. Those two serial numbers have
since been removed from the FAA Type Certificate.
No COH-58A, UH-1H or CUH-1N model aircraft was ever listed on the Canadian type
certificate.
Aircraft Components/Parts
The installer of aeronautical parts/components or products on Canadian aircraft is
responsible for ensuring that the part or product conforms to the standards of
Airworthiness as per Canadian Aviation Regulations (CAR) 571.08 Installation
of Used Parts and CARs 571.13 Installation of Parts – general
and the Standards 571.07 through 571.10 including appendix J.
