Our Mission

To develop and implement programs and strategies, which best contribute to a safe, effective and efficient surface transportation system, based on sustainable development principles.

 

Key Goals
  • Effective implementation of federal/provincial/territorial highway contribution agreements. 
  • Effective implementation of transportation projects under the Canada Strategic Infrastructure Fund and the Border Infrastructure Fund.
  • Effective management of Transport Canada's bridges. 
  • A strong contribution to a new surface transportation strategy based on sustainable development principles (jointly with Policy Group) and effective implementation of the strategy once defined. 
  • Through public/private partnership, effective operation of Confederation Bridge as per the terms of the 35-year Operation Agreement (administered jointly with Atlantic Region). 
  • Effective administration of non-navigational assets of the St. Lawrence Seaway, including commercial administration of non-navigational real property assets and disposal of surplus properties. 
  • Agreement on the Department's and Group's mandate in future surface infrastructure applied research and development related programs (e.g. Intelligent Transportation System applications - jointly with Policy Group).
  • Representing the Government of Canada on the Canadian National Committee of the World Road Association.
