graphic About This Site

Access To Travel (ATT) provides information on accessible transportation and travel across Canada with the aim of making accessible travel easy and enjoyable! This web site includes information on transportation by bus, rail, air and ferry, local public and private transportation, government programs and policies, and much more. A study conducted by Transport Canada in the summer of 2000 found that Canadians and international travelers with disabilities face numerous challenges and difficulties when traveling across the country. The differences in accessible transportation services between communities and the lack of available and accessible information on these services create a huge barrier to transportation for persons with disabilities. It also makes trip planning an onerous, time consuming and difficult task. This web site was the result of a cooperative effort by the federal government and several provincial governments, as well as the private and not-for-profit sectors. It aims to alleviate the problems faced by travelers with disabilities by providing a Canadian Web based accessible travel information system.

Although this web site caters to persons with disabilities, it also provides information that is relevant to the caregivers and families of persons with disabilities. As well, seniors and other travelers with special needs will find the information and links on this website particularly useful in planning their trips. This site should allow all people to plan their trips from the point where they exit their home to the point where they arrive at their final destination. It is hoped that this door-to-door service information will alleviate some of the stresses caused by traveling, especially in an unfamiliar environment.

This web site was built on the principles of simplicity, relevancy, currency and comprehensiveness in order to reach the goal of providing information in a format that is accessible to all people. Hopefully this has lead to the creation of an effective web site that will make knowledge sharing easier and help users find the information they require when planning their trips.

We hope that you find the information and services on the ATT useful and informative. Happy travels!
