Upcoming Events - May 2004
The Canadian Aboriginal Repatriation Extravaganza
This event will bring together Aboriginal and museum professionals from North America to talk about repatriation and museum issues. Aboriginal experts from the Haida, Nisga’a, Kwakwaka wakw, Sto:lo, Heiltsuk, Seneka and others will share their success stories. Professionals from the Canadian Museum of Civilization, the Museum of Anthropology, the Chicago Field Museum, the National Museum of the American Indian and the Canadian Conservation Institute will also share their expertise.

UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues
In 1994, the United Nations General Assembly launched the International Decade of the World's
Indigenous Peoples (1995-2004) to increase the United Nations' commitment to promoting and
protecting the rights of indigenous peoples worldwide. When the Programme of Activities for the
International Decade of the World's Indigenous Peoples was adopted, the Permanent Forum was
recognized as one of the primary objectives of the Decade. May 2002 saw the inaugural session of the
PF take place at UN headquarters in New York City. The theme of the 2004 Session of the Forum is
Indigenous Women.
