• Trade policy - provide advice on development of positions for trade negotiations
• Investment activities particularly in the oil and gas sector
• Provide advice on industrial/economic impact of possible major energy projects (e.g. Northern Gas Pipeline)
• Maximize industrial benefits from energy developments, particularly in the offshore
• Develop Industry Canada's position in intradepartmental considerations of energy issues
• Promote the commercialization and adoption of emerging renewable energy technologies
