ELSIPOGTOG FIRST NATION RECEIVES FUNDING FOR SUBDIVISION DEVELOPMENT

FREDERICTON, New Brunswick (May 12, 2005) - Dominic LeBlanc, Member of Parliament for Beauséjour, announced today an investment of $75,000 from the Government of Canada to assist the Elsipogtog First Nation with the planning and design of a 50 lot subdivision. Mr. LeBlanc made the announcement on behalf of the Honourable Andy Scott, Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development and Federal Interlocutor for Métis and Non-Status Indians.

“This project will have a direct impact on the quality of life for the members of the Elsipogtog First Nation,” said Mr. LeBlanc. “"Together we are building strong First Nation communities, increasing opportunities for economic development and working to enable self-sufficiency."

In 2004-2005, Elsipogtog First Nation also received $60,000 for improvements to its water distribution system.

Elsipogtog First Nation is located 8 kilometres south-west of Rexton, New Brunswick, and has an on-reserve population of 2,125.
