2-02646 FUNDING FOR ROAD UPGRADING ANNOUNCED FOR EEL GROUND BANDFREDERICTON, New Brunswick (May 13, 2005) - Charles Hubbard, Member of Parliament for Miramichi, announced today an investment of $48,000 from the Government of Canada to assist the Eel Ground Band with the upgrading of the Shore Road. Mr. Hubbard made the announcement on behalf of the Honourable Andy Scott, Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development and Federal Interlocutor for Métis and Non-Status Indians. “The Government of Canada is committed to supporting strong First Nation communities, people, and economies,” said Mr. Hubbard. “We are investing in the future of the Eel Ground Band by providing the resources needed to improve infrastructure and in turn, economic opportunities for the community.” In 2004-2005, the Eel Ground Band also received $24,000 from Indian and Northern Affairs Canada for the design of a wastewater treatment system and $5,259 from the department’s Economic Development Opportunities Fund for a retail fabrics and machine quilting services business. Eel Ground Band is located 4.8 kilometres west of Newcastle, New Brunswick, and has an on-reserve population of 530. For further information contact:
