CHIPPEWAS OF KETTLE AND STONY POINT FIRST NATION PLAN FOR AN INDUSTRIAL PARK

TORONTO, ONTARIO (June 6, 2005) - An investment in the development of an industrial park for the Chippewas of Kettle and Stony Point First Nation was announced today by Rose-Marie Ur, Member of Parliament for Lambton-Middlesex on behalf of the Honourable Andy Scott, Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development and Federal Interlocutor for Métis and Non-Status Indians. The investment of $162,900 is for strategic planning in the development of an industrial park.

“I’m pleased to announce this funding to the community,” said Ms. Ur. “The completion of a strategic plan is necessary in order to develop this project to a level where negotiations with other parties will be possible. The results of this planning phase will provide a solid framework for future economic development initiatives in the community.”

“Our community has a growing economic base,” said Chief Tom Bressette. “Today’s funding announcement not only allows us to draft a strategic plan for our industrial park, but also helps us further our community’s vision on development and infrastructure.”

Located in southern Ontario along the shores of Lake Huron, 50 kilometres north of Sarnia, and near the Michigan border, the proposed industrial park would contribute to the local economy, benefiting area residents in general. The Chippewas of Kettle and Stony Point First Nation has a membership of approximately 1,900.
