How to submit your application
- in person to the High Commission in Nairobi (see address and business hours in sidebar above)
- by post or courier (with prepaid courier return service) to the High Commission in Nairobi (address in sidebar above); include the application, passport, processing fees and supporting documents in your application package.
- in person to the following Canadian missions:
Addis Ababa, Antananarivo,
Asmara, Dar es Salaam,
Djibouti, Kampala, Kigali,

Processing times
The processing times below are for complete applications, i.e., ones with no missing documents. The processing time starts running when the High Commission in Nairobi receives the complete application; it therefore excludes the time it takes to deliver the application. All incomplete applications are not accepted and are returned. We reserve the right to call any applicant for a personal interview, and doing so makes the processing time longer.
- visitor visa (tourism, family, business): the same day if the application is submitted in person to Nairobi; about five days after receipt of a complete application delivered by post or courrier; it should be noted that applications submitted by government employees (including politicians and members of the armed forces and the police) for official or private travel often take an extra two weeks to be processed; the same extra two week processing time applies to Rwanda cases for persons born before 1980
- work permit: about eight weeks after receipt of complete application
- study permit: about twelve weeks after receipt of complete application
- permanent residence.
