KEN GIGLIOTTI / WINNIPEG FREE PRESS
A worker boards up the building after fire investigator finished examining the scene on Academy Road Friday.

A small strip mall on Academy Road was severely damaged during an early-Friday morning fire.

A spokesman for the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service said a passing motorist called in the fire at about 2:23 a.m.

Crews responded to a three-unit strip mall at 620 Academy Road, near Centennial Street.

The most damage was at the Top Notch Fashions shoe store, with $300,000 to the building and $100,000 to contents. The two other stores in the unit suffered smoke and water damage totalling $70,000.

There were no injuries. The cause remains under investigation.
