On February 22, 2001, Mr. Michael Binder, Assistant Deputy Minister, Spectrum, Information Technology and Telecommunications Sector, Industry Canada, wrote to Mr. Richard Beaird, Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for International Communications and Information Policy, Department of State, Government of the United States, to offer Canadian comments concerning the allocation of spectrum to support advanced wireless communications services, including third-generation (3G) mobile services. The Department of State has forwarded Canada's comments to those agencies of the United States government involved in the consideration of the issue. Canada continues to follow the discussions taking place in the United States and looks forward to a timely resolution of the issue. Industry Canada intends to undertake a public consultation on the allocation of spectrum to support like services at an appropriate time in the near future. Documents pertaining to the Canadian consultation will be posted to this Web site when they become available.
