Transport Canada's Aviation Safety mandate encompasses the full spectrum of regulatory responsibilities necessary to provide effective safety oversight in all aspects of civil aviation. We work to satisfy that aeronautical products are designed, manufactured, operated and maintained in accordance with applicable regulations; that air operators are equipped and able to provide the service; that flight crews, air traffic controllers and aircraft maintenance engineers are fit and competent; that certified aerodromes are safe to use and that air navigation service providers and general aviation activities meet required safety standards. In order to accomplish these, we carry out four main activities:

  1. Qualifying Aeronautical Products, Individuals and Organizations

  2. Oversight of the Aviation System

  3. Education, Promotion and Evaluation

  4. Safety Policy, Rulemaking and Agreements
Ultimately, we strive to attain the highest level of aviation safety in Canada. Comments and concerns about aviation safety can be addressed through a new Civil Aviation Issues Reporting System (CAIRS).
