United Nations Climate Change Conference - Nairobi, 6 - 17 November 2006
 

The second meeting of the Parties to Kyoto Protocol (COP/MOP 2) and twelfth session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 12) concluded on Friday, 17 November 2006. The Conference was attended by six thousand participants from one hundred eighty countries including the United Nations Secretary-General, Kofi Annan. President Mwai Kibaki of Kenya and President Moritz Leuenberger of the Swiss Confederation addressed event as did ministers and heads of delegation from some ninety-two countries.

17 November 2006 -– The United Nations Climate Change Conference concluded this evening with the adoption of a wide range of decisions designed to mitigate climate change and help countries adapt to the effects of global warming.

UN Secretary-General announces “Nairobi Framework” to help developing countries participate in the Kyoto Protocol
15 November 2006 -- At the opening of the high-level segment of the United Nations Climate Change Conference - Nairobi 2006, UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan announced a UN new plan, the “Nairobi Framework.” Six United Nations agencies have launched an initiative to help developing countries - especially in Africa - participate in the Kyoto Protocol’s Clean Development Mechanism.

Nairobi United Nations Climate Change Conference opens with warning that climate change may be most serious threat ever to face humankind
6 November 2006 -- The United Nations Climate Change Conference - Nairobi 2006 got underway today with calls for action and a stark warning that climate change is fast proving to be one of the greatest challenges in the history of humankind. The two-week conference is the twelfth Conference of the 189 Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the second meeting of the 166 Parties to the Kyoto Protocol.

New Report Underlines Africa’s Vulnerability to Climate Change.
5 November 2006, Nairobi -- Assisting developing countries to adapt to the impacts of global warming, especially those in Africa must be a key focus of the latest round of climate change talks which open tomorrow in Nairobi.

30 November 2006 -- The UNFCCC launched the brochure on 'Technologies for adaptation to climate change'.
This brochure summarizes and illustrates conclusions of the technical paper on Applications of environmentally sound technologies for adaptation to climate change (FCCC/TP/2006/2) and serves as a brief introduction to the principles and methods of adaptation and the practical steps that can be taken to put them into practice, while the technical paper provides the detail. The brochure is available for download from the publications section
30 November 2006 --The UNFCCC launched the 'UNFCCC guidebook on preparing technology transfer projects for financing'
The guidebook aims to assist project developers in developing countries and other stakeholders in preparing project proposals that will meet the standards of international finance providers.

30 October 2006 -- 2006 UNFCCC greenhouse gas data report points to rising emission trends
Every year, developed countries submit their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions data to the United Nations Climate Change Secretariat, which then publishes an annual report on the latest available data on GHG emissions from these countries. This year’s GHG data report covers emissions from 1990 to 2004. The GHG emissions data submitted by Annex I (industrialized) Parties under the United Nations Climate Change Convention are considered accurate and reliable as a basis for assessing progress in emission reductions. The report includes data for all 41 Annex I (industrialized) Parties to the Climate Change Convention.
